# Milestones

> Mark a dated checkpoint inside one project and group the tasks that must be done by it.

A Milestone names a one-time checkpoint inside a Project. Examples include “Beta to design
partners,” “Invitations mailed,” and “Venue confirmed.”

## Add a checkpoint people plan around

Add a Milestone from the Project when the date divides the work into a meaningful stage. Assign
the Tasks that must be complete by that checkpoint.

Deleting a Milestone does not delete its Tasks. Docket removes the Milestone from those Tasks and
keeps the work.

Use a [Cycle](/docs/guides/concepts/cycles) for the recurring period a Team works in. Use a due date on a
[Task](/docs/guides/concepts/tasks) when only one item is due.
