# Athena and your mail

> Her own email address, and turning the mail you already get into work you can act on.

Forward a thread to Athena's own address, or connect Gmail and let her draft the tasks your mail
implies. Either works without the other.

## Forward it to her

Athena has an email address. Forward the venue confirmation, the thread you owe a reply to, or the
budget someone sent you, and she works from it.

Docket stores the message with a title, its content, the sender, and the date, then attaches it to
whatever work you point it at.

## Turn Gmail into tasks

Connect Gmail and Athena drafts a Task from what arrives, with the original email attached. Work
the task. Open the message when you need to check what the caterer said.

### Accept it before it is a task

Every drafted task is a [proposal](/docs/guides/athena/proposals-and-approvals). Accept it, edit it, or
dismiss it. Docket creates no task until you accept one.

Each suggestion shows a confidence indicator and a preview of the source thread.

### Athena reads due dates from the message

An email that says "by the 14th" sets the task's due date to the 14th. An email that names no date
leaves the due date empty. Athena infers no due date.

## Automation rules

A rule can:

* Set a status, assignee, or priority
* Apply a label
* Send a notification
* Accept a suggestion automatically

Turning on email-to-task creates a default set of rules.

Turn it on in **Settings → Connections → Email to task**. Edit the rules in
**Settings → Automations**.

## Suggestions expire after 30 days

Suggestions you never act on expire after 30 days. Docket removes resolved ones after 90.

## When mail access breaks

Docket flags the connection as needing re-authorization and notifies you. A mail connector never
reports success while reading nothing. Re-authorize in **Settings → Connections**.
